Characters are combined to form sentences

In each lesson, characters are combined together to form sentences allowing for a more efficient way to learn each word. Just by memorizing one sentence, the student has learned all the characters in the lesson.

Characters learned from each lesson are used as a foundation for future lessons

Levels 1 and 2 consist almost exclusively of characters from previous lessons, as well as the new characters introduced in the current lesson (starting from level 3 unknown words and characters may be introduced increasingly in accordance with the requirements of the actual HSK examination to test candidates' ability to the meaning of unknown words within context).   

Sentences in each lesson are related to daily life  

Words are easier to learn and remember if the content is similar to the context of daily life.

Notes

• Students are given voluntary standardized homework in the form of previewing the vocabulary of the next class

• After HSK test level 2 (30 sessions of two hours each) teachers are instructed to limit their use of other languages but Mandarin in-class

• A curriculum based on Powerpoint slides keeps classes tight and focused; in addition, teachers are on a clock and advised to finish the contents within the allotted time frame

• Study HSK uses a proprietary character and tone combination tool thereby reducing the need to use Pinyin (expressing Chinese syllables using the alphabet)
